That's a good quote. And I also wonder what are we actually promised. I wonder this, because so many students these days have a strong sense of entitlement, but what have they done to earn it and what makes them feel they should be given it. I may be looking at the quote wrong, but that's what I thought right away.
As the only things promised in life are "death and taxes", I see it as a reminder that you are what you do. If you do not like what you are getting, then you need to make a change. Without change the cycle will only continue.
