3rd Grade Right Angles...
I just viewed one of the SchoolTube Videos called "3rd Grade California Standard 2.4 Right Angles" (yeah I know...that's a long title). It was simple and direct and useful. It was done by a young girl using cartoon pics and her actual voice. As simple as it is, I thought it was pretty good. One thing I've noticed about students is that they are less critical about how something is done (as in production quality, etc.) if what it is the are viewing is done by someone in their age group. It seems when people their age produce videos, music, etc., that it "captures" them more easily and tends to hold them longer. A video like this could be very useful in teaching 3rd graders about right, acute, and obtuse angles especially since it can be played over-and-over again. Besides, anything that will help students learn math better is cool to me.

Great point about the age group of the person creating the video. You could really accelerate some of your advanced learners if they could work on teaching videos for certain lessons or different viewpoints on how the class can pick up material they already understand.
ReplyDeleteI have made it one of my goals to get my kindergarteners on video before the end of the school year. I am thinking about recording their animals reports. I could definitely see this working out for both them and myself. I love how the use of video is not limiting by reading ability or technical skill.
